Becoming Americano

Kathleen A Gannon, University of Texas at El Paso

Abstract

Becoming Americano is a series of essays reflecting the non-Hispanic experience of life in El Paso, Texas, a community with a majority Hispanic population. This is partly in response to recent debates over immigration and the impact of the rising Latino population in the U.S. The project also stems from an interest in telling the rich stories of people who found their way to this undiscovered borderland on the edge of our nation and our identities.
