The impact of replenishment parameters and information sharing on bullwhip effect for short life cycle products

Abstract

Many organizations had to improve their supply chain process due to increase in technology advancement, globalization of markets and increase in competition both domestically and abroad. This trend has been going since the past two decades. Bullwhip effect, mean cycle inventory and product fill rate plays a vital role in achieving an efficient supply chain process. In this thesis, the effect of information sharing and replenishment parameters on bullwhip effect, mean cycle inventory and product fill rate has been studied. First, a stochastic bass regression demand model which is a non-stationary is modeled. Then two different supply chain models are considered to study the impact of information sharing and various replenishment parameters on bullwhip effect, mean cycle inventory and product fill rate. Previously, research is done using a stationary demand pattern in studying the effects of information sharing and replenishment parameters. In this current research, the same effects are studied using a non-stationary demand pattern. Information sharing and various replenishment parameters are very critical for a supply chain in case of short life cycle products. The effects of these parameters are also studied in this research. A company can maintain optimum inventory levels by careful evaluation of these factors which results in low cost and high customer service.
