Assessment and evaluation of the dynamic behavior of muscles with special reference to subjects with diabetes mellitus

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (simply diabetes) is a group of metabolic diseases in which a person has high blood sugar, either because the body does not produce enough insulin, or because cells do not respond to the insulin that is produced. Each year, the costs of diabetes rise. Diabetes and its complications cost our national economy. Two new methods are proposed to measure the diabetes implications in the muscles of lower body: Muscle energy expenditure analysis based on the detection of muscle transition-to-fatigue, and Natural Fuzzy logic method for differential analysis in muscle/joint. Then the results are compared with the traditional method based on Semmes-Weinstein monofilament test. For this study two groups of volunteers were integrated: a healthy control group (20 subjects), and a type 2 DM group (7 subjects). The new non-invasive method the Dynamic muscle energy expenditure analysis, use a completely new different approach detecting muscle transition-to-fatigue. The same results were consistent with the second method Natural fuzzy logic method for differential analysis in muscle/joint activation pattern, using a Infer T equation muscles/joint in DM patients. These results show more detailed information that describes the association, interaction or interconnection between elements of muscle activities with the joint angles. And both results methods were consolidated with the traditional (from 1950) Semmes-Weinstein monofilament test widely used by physician.
