A study of opinions of graduates of El Paso high schools from 1936 through 1946

Abstract

The problem of determining values constantly recurs, and for those to whom is instructed the education of our youth there is ever the need to find reliable opinions upon which to base future policies of the schools. It was this problem which, during the fall of 1947, prompted Mr. A. H. Hughey, Superintendent of the El Paso Public Schools, to voice the desire for someone to undertake a survey ofthe recent graduates of three of the city's general public high schools, Austin, Bowie, and El Paso High, which might form at least one source upon which to rely for planning. Because of their interest in the youth of the city and in the schools, the Education Committee of the El Paso Branch of the American Association of University Women volunteered to cooperate in this project. As chairman of the Education Committee, the writer enjoyed the privilege of having a considerable part in directing and in bringing to completionthe work undertaken; but without counsel and assistance from school authorities and members of AAUW, the task would have been impossible.
