Biographical Synopsis of Interviewee

Sylvia Martinez was born in El Paso, Texas to Reyes Hernandez and Elisa Ordonez Hernandez. Sylvia has nine siblings, five brothers and four sisters. She attended Ysleta High school and received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from The University of Texas at El Paso. Sylvia has two sons who help run her business. She is the co-founder and owner of Altomar.

Summary of Interview

Sylvia Martinez, her then husband and his brother decided to start inhome healthcare support business to assist families in El Paso. The business is called Altomar and is located in El Paso, Texas. Their business provided help for families dealing with special needs children. Altomar is a woman-owned certified as well as minority certified business. Sylvia also owns Altomar New Mexico and just started Altomar Medical Equipment Company that provides medical equipment. Sylvia is a member of the Greater El Paso Chamber of Commerce and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Altomar is able to help the El Paso community was well as the surrounding towns in both Texas and New Mexico. Sylvia was able to receive assistance from the United States Small Business Association. Sylvia’s advice is to love the Lord with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself, don’t forget where you came from and who you are, keep trying and don’t give up you never know when one door closes, another door opens.
