Abstract
Lloyd C. Englebrecht received a Ph.D. at the University of Chicago and was a faculty member at the University of Ohio where he taught art history. June-Marie, who grew up in El Paso, earned her M.A. in art history from Mills College. She held a curatorial position at the Smith College Museum of Art and at other universities. June-Marie passed away on June 4, 2009. The lack of information about architect Henry Trost influenced the Engelbrechts to put together the very first book about Trost’s work in the southwestern United States. They also compiled a database of every building he had ever designed. Through the help of a grant from the National Endowment of the Humanities, the Engelbrechts successfully documented and put together an index of Trost’s buildings, sketches, inventions, and artworks. Copies of their research may be found in the El Paso Public Library and in this collection. Henry C. Trost was born on March 5, 1860 in Toledo, Ohio and died on September 19, 1933 in El Paso, Texas. Born to German immigrants, his father was a carpenter, building contractor, and a grocer. After leaving Toledo, Trost studied and worked in several cities including Chicago, Wichita, Pueblo, and Tucson.
