Abstract

Owen Payne White, lawyer, rancher, newspaperman, and writer of Southwestern historical works was born in El Paso, Texas, in 1879, and died in New York City, in 1946. From 1923 to 1945, he wrote eight published books, dozens of magazine articles, poetry, biographies, and his autobiography. His articles appeared in The American Mercury, Colliers, and the New York Times Magazine. White’s papers consist of correspondence, the unpublished manuscript of his last novel Western Trails, reviews of several of White's published novels, including Out of the Desert, Just Me, and Them was the Days, newspaper clippings, photographs, magazine articles, various brochures and pamphlets, and periodicals. Correspondents include H. L. Mencken, the New York Times, and various publishers such as McMath and Putnam and G. P. Putnam's Sons.
