[From the Preface]
When Dr. Haskell Monroe became president of The University of Texas at El Paso in 1980, as a historian he was interested in the forthcoming seventy-fifth anniversary of the institution. He wanted to commemorate the event with a special book. Not long after he began putting out feelers about an anniversary book, the Alumni Association was approached by the Donning Company about sponsoring a picture history. Why not do it for the Diamond jubilee? suggested Steve DeGroat, the president.
Francis L. Fugate and Linda Robinson
Francis Fugate, who taught for decades in the English Department at the University of Texas at El Paso, wrote this book with research help from Linda Robinson. The book celebrates Texas Western College’s fiftieth anniversary in 1964.
