Abstract

In response to violence, assault, kidnapping, and torture, thousands of Mexican refugees have fled to the United States. The authors interviewed two dozen Mexican refugees who had fled to reside in El Paso. The interviews were qualitatively analyzed, and the authors found that refugees expressed common themes, including a sense of living in the shadows, panic about the possibility of deportation, human rights violations, and hope versus despair.
